I’ve been in Paraty on the last holiday, and it was a very nice trip except for the rainy days, I’ve been there for five days, but only one day was a sunny and blue day.
I have already been there once, but I was very young, so I couldn’t have remembered about those places. So on this trip I could have remember the trip I did when I was a child, I could see the streets of stones, the shops on these streets and the beautiful islands to go by boat, small ships or schooners.
I’ve been there with some friends mine and we had funny days, but I think we could have enjoyed it more if the weather was better, because we were overboard going to the restaurants and eating fishes, drinking coffes, and looking the small shops at that small city.
In the only sunny day we’ve got to go to some small islands around Paraty, and it was a wonderful siteseeing by schooner, the island I like most was the Red Beach , a small but so cute and clear beach. In Paraty you can do some siteseeings by shooner that goes to some preestablished islands or you can rent a boat to take you wherever you want in that region.
I really recomend this trip, just try to choose sunny days.

Who I admire is a common person, my father. I admire him for his courage and determination. Once in a while, he took time to tell his experiences and childhood. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1990, he was 55 years old.He was Japanese descendent (2nd generation) and his family was big (5 brothers and 4 sisters), he was the youngest child. His family lived in countryside and they planted vegetables. His childhood was tough because when he was child, his parents died and he was brought up by his oldest brother. He suffered a lot in that time, he had to work to help his family; he didn’t have time and money for entertainment. He didn’t have choice. He studied until fundamental course.
When he was 18 years old, he moved to São Paulo. He tried to change his life. He rented a truck to carry stones and sand. Some years later, he bought our own truck, got married and built a family, my mother and three children. His job was always heavy.
I remember we lived in a small house when I gained my favorite doll; my brother gained your first bicycle and my father bought the first car, a green Fusca. The whole family was happy for that moment. I learned the small things become huge ones. With a simple life, my parents offered a good education which allowed my brothers and I studied to choose our career. My father’s dream was fulfilled, I graduated at USP and he went in my graduation celebration. My father had the first heart attack when he was 42 and stayed 3 months at the hospital. After that, he had to retire and his favorite hobby was to help others with manual tasks. I inherited this ability I fix many things that my husband should do.
There is a person who I admire a lot, Amir Klink. His love for the sea inspired him so much, that he dedicated a great part of his life in planning and executing amazing adventures that has approximated him from the oceans.
He was born in São Paulo and has been visiting Parati with his family frequently since he was a child. In that historical and charming city in Rio de Janeiro coast, near from São Paulo borderline, Amir established his “head quarter”. It’s from there that he planning and working on many of his projects.
The main accomplishments done for him were:
-In 1984, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean alone in a small paddle boat, departing from south of Africa and arraving in Bahia a hundred days later.
-In December 1989, he started his trip from Antartica to Artico sea, crossing the world in 642 days, alone in Parati sailboat.
-In 1998, he began the “Antártida 360” project. He crossed the world alone using the worst and most dangerous route in the sea, the circumnavigation of Antarctica sea. He faced freezing temperatures, icebergs and big agitated waves for 79 days, alone in its Parati sailboat.
-In 2003/2004, he repeated the circumnavigation of Antarctica sea, but at this time with a crew, that helped him in the documentation of the trip. He used Parati II in this trip, a sailboat projected and developed by him personally.
He always has been involved in many interesting projects, as the foundation of National Museum of the Sea, in São Francisco do Sul – Santa Catarina, or in the National Geographic expedition.
I really admire him, not only because his achievements. Even being the most important Brazilian navigator, he is a low profile guy, no snobbish. He seems to be a great person, who treats everybody with loyalty and sobriety.
When i think about a idol that i have, i always think in Ayrton Senna da Silva. Senna died when i was 7 yeas old, i was a child however he already represented a hero for me, not only a hero driving a car, but a hero as a person because i was contemplate with the opportunity of meet him. My father was friend of Ayrton Senna since his childhood, because they lived in the same neighborhood (Santana).
Senna as a regular person was fantastic, a spirit very developed. He was very humble and also very attentive. I remembered once, he went to the office of my father, and every time that he went to the office, people knew, because he had a gorgeous car. So, after some minutes that he arrived, a long line from people started to appear waiting he leaved to catch an autograph. He was incredible, he leaved the office from my father and he gave an autograph for all that people! I also remembered another story from Senna, when we went to a restaurant, after we ate, he always asked to waiter to do again the same dishes. He asked this, because he made a point of give the same dishes that we ate to his securities.
Talking about his career as a F1 driver, he disputed 162 GPs, with 41 wins, 65 Pole positions and he won 3 championships. His numbers are so incredible that he still have some records that Michael Schumacher didn’t beat. For example, Senna is the only driver who won 6 times at Monaco (considered the most difficult track of F1). Another record that Senna still have is the average of pole positions: 40,37% against 27,2 % from Schumacher, this prove how fast Senna was.
I remembered how was nice the mornings of Sunday. How we felt proud seeing Ayrton won the races, how we forgot the problems that we had, the social problems that Brazil had and felt marvelous seeing not only Senna in the top of the podium, but seeing us, Brazilian people in the top of the world. Senna made a point of show the Brazilian flag every time he won a race, he always dedicate his wins to Brazilian people, he was amazing!
The most incredible race that he won, for me, is his first victory at Brazil (Interlagos 1991). In this race, he proved how genius he was. During the race, he was losing some gears and missing only 10 laps, he had only the sixth gear! However, he didn’t give up, he wish of win a race in Brazil was bigger than the physical strength that he had to do for driving a car with only one gear (I tryed to drive a F1 car with only the sixth gear in the video game, but I didn’t get, it’s impossible), he wish of put Brazil in the top of the world was bigger than the pressure of the second placed (Ricardo Patrese), and he won, he put Brazil in the top of the world, i separated the video of the last 3 laps in this race, it is very exciting:
In the end, when he was in the podium, he didn’t have power to raise the trophy, but one more time, he surprised us, he found an extra power to raise the trophy in one of the most memorable images of F1.
Ayrton Senna was perfect, my last words to prove this, will be about your team. He was Corinthiano .
Well, when we think about someone who is an exemple for everybody, we think how hard this is to choose just one. But I have read Heliaura’s post and I thought about my mother. If I knew very well someone popular like Rick nows I would write about, but my mom is an exemple to everyone too.
I think she is an exemple because she was “the man of the house” for some years. I say this because my father was unemployed that time. She always told me that the only thing she could let me as a inheritance was my education. So, she did hard to pay me the best school of Rio Claro.
My admiration for her is not just about what she did when my father didn’t had a job. She is a hardwork person. She is the sixth child of twelve childrens…like you can imagine my grandfather wasn’t a rich man, they had money enough to pay bills and to buy food. My mother stared to work as a manicure at twelve years old against my grandfather’s wish.
When my mom was twenty she opened her own hairdresser. Since then she had helped her sibilings on their education. My youngests aunts went to The United States to study with her help. Also, she could buy presents to her parents too.
Teaching me how to enjoy life was very precious for me. She loves her job and her clients know this and are very loyal. There are clients who follow her since the begining, now almost 36 years. She never complains about her job, even though my father asks her to work less. And inside everything she is the biggest fan of my father. She brought back his self stime and admire him as a man and as a professional well succesfull.
I love her and admire her….actually we argue a lot but this is very small near what she had done to the family.
I admire very much my father Heli Antunes Duarte, because he was able to overcoming great obstacles and is a winner…
He was born 70 years ago in Diogo de Vasconcelos, a very small city, in Minas Gerais. To explain how small it is nowadays this city have a population of 3.000 people.
He was 18 years old, just knowing read and write basics things, when come to São Paulo almost without money. He looked for a job and started as “dustman”, who at that time was named “turn dustbin” because plastic trash bag did not exist yet and he needed turn down the garbage from the trash can inside the garbage truck, was a very hard physical effort.
Besides he worked very hard during all day he had money just to have lunch and at the night could eat something only when the owner of the boarding house changed some food for extra services.
In some months my father come to school to recovered the lost time and became a accountant, got a better job in accountancy office, known my mother and got married (almost 40 years ago). Together they built very happy family with 4 daughters, who studied at least until the graduation. He already have retired for many years and can live very well with his own money (something very rare in Brazil!).
For many people every thing my father conquered can be almost nothing… but considering the conditions he started was a very big realization (at least in my opinion!). I now lots of people with much better support and opportunities who did not study or work and is unable to have an structured family.
To finalize the most important is that my father is very happy, is very satisfied with his life, loves his family and this sensation is the most value thing somebody can have…
If you think the number one reason why I admire Rogério Ceni is the fact that he has scored 76 goals so far in his career? You are wrong. If you think that it is because he has been a loyal SPFC goalkeeper for the last 17 years, you are still wrong. If you think it is because the has received the award Bola de Prata 4 times and has been nominated this year to run for The World’s Best Soccer Player of the Year Award along with Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Kaka, I am sorry, you are wrong.
Obviously, all these three reasons do contribute to his being my idol, but the number one reason why I worship the guy is his life off the soccer field. In his free time, Rogério is known for helping institutions in need, not with money, but with his time. He often visits orphanages in poverty-stricken neighborhoods and spends time with them, talking to them about the importance of sports in a person’s life. This last October, for instance, Rogério participated in a party promoted at CACCC (Centro de Apoio à Criança Carente com Câncer), where he distributed presents and autographs to children, who, if not for his good will, would never have the chance of meeting a celebrity otherwise.
To me, it is not enough for a soccer player – or any other sports celebrity for that matter — to be a whiz at what they do in the field only. For the guy to become an idol, he needs to go the step further and show the world that he is as admirable outside the soccer field as well. And Rogério Ceni has certainly accomplished that feat. He is, by far, one of the most well-rounded sports celebrities I have ever come across in my entire life. Go, Rogério, Go!
Now that you have already shared a bit about yourself, we would like to know a bit about a person you look up to. Who is the person you admire the most in life? Maybe a singer, an actor, a business person? Or maybe even you mom or dad. We would love to know who. Tell us who the person is and why you admire the person so much.
Note:
Don’t just cut and paste a biographical account of the person from a Website. We can do that on our own. Simply write YOUR own reasons for admiring the person so much.
